Dayton, Ohio has experienced unusually high crash rates and risky driving behaviors on several streets in the downtown area. In response to local government and residential concerns, the city has begun to implement a series of road diets aimed at improving transportation safety for all. They have completed a series of successful road diets in the Oregon and University districts
The proposed project on North Main Street, the scene of several fatal crashes, will be the largest underway currently. North Main will be reconstructed to improve the safety of multiple modes of transportation for Dayton residents. The project will include a road diet and the replacement of vehicular travel lanes with bike lanes, widened sidewalks, and parking spaces.
