GOPC Executive Director Alison Goebel was a guest recently on the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) podcast Doorsteps, talking about the importance of affordable housing and transportation.
For residents across Ohio and the country, there is a direct connection between housing and transportation, and both have immense impact on how we live our lives. Whether commuting to work or running basic errands around town, residents of low- and moderate-income face a variety of challenges from the cost of transportation and car ownership to mobility limitations and lack of safe pedestrian infrastructure.
For most households, especially low-income, transportation is the second largest expense after housing.
On this podcast, Goebel discusses how transit and other alternative modes of transportation can go hand-in-hand with the development and preservation of affordable housing to create better connected communities that enable low- and moderate-income Ohioans to succeed.
