Today is Election Day across the United States. Here in Ohio, voters will be electing a number of important national, state and local officials who will help to shape the direction of our state for the next several years. Additionally, a number of important ballot issues will appear statewide and locally.
Voters are being asked to elect the following national and state officials:
17 Members of the Ohio Senate (those seats in even numbered districts + one special election in District 33)
Members of the Ohio State Board of Education (Districts 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11)
Polls will be open today from 6:30am until 7:30 pm. If you are in line to vote when the polls close, you will still be permitted to wait and cast your ballot. Ohio law requires everyone who votes to already be registered, and to have an ID when you arrive at the polls. Acceptable forms of ID include:
A Valid Ohio Driver’s License or State ID (not expired)
An Interim ID form issued by the Ohio BMV
A U.S. Passport (book) or U.S. Passport Card
A U.S. Military ID
An Ohio National Guard ID
A U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ID Card
All photo IDs must have the following
An expiration date that has not passed (i.e. valid on or after November 5, 2024)
A photograph of the voter
The voter’s name, which must substantially conform to the voter’s name as it appears in the poll list or in the poll book (i.e. ID says James, poll book says Jim)
An unexpired Driver’s License, State ID Card, or Interim Documentation with a former address is an acceptable form of ID when your current address is in the pollbook.
New digital Ohio Driver’s Licenses or State ID Cards are not an acceptable form of ID when voting.
If you are unsure where your local polling location is, visit the Ohio Secretary of State’s website and select your county to learn more about where you cast your ballot in your local community.
