If you haven’t caught “The Place that Makes Us” on PBS, you should. The hour long documentary is about the new generation of community builders in Youngstown, Ohio. The film provides a deep look into the great work being carried out by our friends at Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC), and highlights the leadership and activism by new city council members. The documentary celebrates the resiliency of community members and the love residents have of their city.
The documentary does a good job capturing the challenges of rebuilding a legacy city, while also showing how impactful incremental changes in individual neighborhoods and families are contributing to an overall momentum toward stability and vibrancy.
