Last week, Greater Ohio kicked-off a new blog series highlighting some of the new and exciting investments that are being made across Ohio to innovate public transit thanks to the historic investment made by the state as a result of the $70 million in state funding approved earlier this year.
Logan Public Transit began providing local transit services in 2007. They currently serve the City of Logan, both Green and Falls Townships, and the villages of Haydenville, Rockbridge, Carbon Hill, and Union Furnace. Logan Public Transit also provides service to Falls Gore, 2 miles into Marion, Ward, Starr, and all along the US 33 corridor through Hocking County.
Since its founding 12 years ago, demand has been increasing for Logan Public Transit service to the entire county. Through a contract with the county Job and Family Services, Logan Public Transit provides limited transportation county-wide for medical services, but despite this, nearly three quarters of Hocking County remains under-served by public transit.
Logan Public Transit will be a recipient of a transit grant from the ODOT Office of Public Transit for $134,110 to expand their service area and expand transportation services by providing access to medical services, pregnancy appointments, addiction treatment, WIC, workforce availability and training, food access and other quality of life opportunities.
As a rural county with few if any transportation options, especially for an increasingly older population, investment in public transit is critical for Logan Public Transit and Hocking County. This new funding will ensure that more residents in the Logan Public Transit service area will be able to benefit from transit access.
