Celebrating Ohio Loves Transit Week!

There is a lot happening to celebrate this week. Sunday night saw the big game, yesterday was the annual commemoration of Lincoln’s Birthday, and of course throughout the month of February we celebrate Black History Month.

One of our favorite commemorations takes place this week, as everyone here at GOPC celebrates Ohio Loves Transit Week!

Ohio Loves Transit week is an annual celebration of Ohio’s 63 Urban and Rural Transit agencies, along with the hardworking and dedicated workers who provide the 59 million trips Ohio’s transit systems provide each year. Without their commitment and support, individuals, families, their communities and the businesses they work for or support would suffer.

GOPC has long believed that public transportation is a vital link for millions of Ohioans, and is proud to have championed and supported the six-year, $225+ million investment by the state in direct support for public transportation services around Ohio. This historic investment, which reversed a decade-long decline in state support of public transportation, is benefiting Ohio’s public transportation systems and the riders who rely on them on a daily basis.

These expanded investments have allowed transit agencies to enhance services to make transit more direct and reliable, and ensure that all riders have a safe experience to and from their destinations.

We salute all of the public transit agencies around Ohio as well as our partners at the Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA) during Ohio Loves Transit Week, and thank them for all they do throughout the 52 weeks of the year!
